FAQ

Here you will find answers to common questions

  • What activities can Etto helmets be used for?

Etto makes helmets for action sports, mainly cycling, skateboarding and winter sports. They are not designed for motorised transport.

  • Are Etto helmets CE approved?

Yes, all Etto helmets are CE approval prior to sale. CE approval is a European standard which applies to all helmets and all helmets on the market must have such approval.
CE approval is carried out by an external laboratory. Etto also carries out its own rigorous tests before its helmets are CE approved.

  • How should my helmet fit on my head?

Your helmet should fit snugly on your head without squeezing it too hard. It should fit well down on your forehead so that it provides protection if you fall off.
The straps should be adjusted so that the side adjustments are located just beneath your earlobes. The chin strap should be tightened so that you can insert two fingers between the strap and your chin. The neck strap should be pulled down over the widest part behind your head and tightened so that the helmet fits tightly, without discomfort.

  • How can I calculate the size of a helmet?

All models are produced with a unique fit and the size indicator specifies the largest and smallest head circumferences.
Most models are available in 1-3 different sizes. Etto recommends trying on helmets before purchasing them.

  • Can helmets be used after an accident/crash?

No. If you fall off your bike and damage your helmet it will always need to be replaced.
If you drop your helmet on the ground you will need to check it for internal damage. You can do this by squeezing or pulling hard on the helmet’s shell. Check the helmet for cracks and squeaking/creaking noises.

  • How should helmets be stored?

Helmets should be stored in a dry place without direct exposure to the sun. Sunlight reduces the effectiveness of a helmet and will make the plastic and isopore more brittle, and this could impair the safety of the helmet.

  • How should I wash and maintain my helmet?

Wash with lukewarm water and a mild soap. The pads inside the helmet can be removed and washed in a washing machine on a 40C program, although you should avoid using a high spin cycle.

  • Can helmets be varnished?

No, varnish and paint contain substances which can ruin the shell and thus the functionality/safety of a helmet.

  • How long will my helmet last?

If you look after your helmet properly it will last for 5-7 years. However, the plastic and isopore will become more brittle with time and start to become less effective.
If you drop your helmet on the ground you will need to check it for internal damage. You can do this by squeezing or pulling hard on the helmet’s shell. Check the helmet for cracks and squeaking/creaking noises.
If you fall off your bike and damage your helmet it will always need to be replaced.

  • Where can I buy an Etto helmet?
